Lenora Andrews 11/02/2023 6:43 AMI learned that any daily action can help contribute to a better environment and improve overall health. Being intentional about taking actions that actually make a difference and sustaining them is key. It is also helpful to be on an active team where teammates participate, share comments with positive, encouraging feedback. I would like to see small gaps of time in between challenges so that we can all keep this going. I hope to see a new challenge real soon! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Lenora Andrews 10/31/2023 7:01 AMBetter health is definitely achieved through eating smaller portions and limiting waste. There are times when I find that I haven't finished my food and find that I am full. I tell myself to put the food away or set it aside and eat the rest when I am hungry. When attending social events where there is a lot of different foods, I take a little bit of most everything that I think I will like, eat and figure out what I like best, and return to get a bit more of some of what I liked the most. -
Lenora Andrews 10/31/2023 6:38 AMI checked my steps and made 11,819 yesterday. I kept making a decision to walk a little further and take a longer route. What small step can you make today? -
Lenora Andrews 10/31/2023 4:59 AMGood morning everyone. I am enjoying learning Tai Chi and attend on Monday evenings, but find this the most difficult to learn. and definitely need to practice more of what I am learning to get better at it. Whatever you decide to do, I encourage more movement.-
Lenora Andrews 10/31/2023 5:57 AMHi Tricia, thanks! I do realize Tai Chi has many benefits and plan to stick with it. I definitely see I need improvements with my balance. Planning these classes has helped me get better workouts than on my own and I don't let anything unimportant like rain, cold outside, or being tired keep from going to class. -
Tricia Jones 10/31/2023 5:52 AMJealous!! Tai Chi is so good for you - and it is tricky, I never mastered it! I did however, see results when sailing - my balance was so much better. Stick with it - and you have motivated me to try it out again - thank you!!

Lenora Andrews 10/27/2023 6:17 AMZumba was awesome last night--45 minutes of high tensity fun with a cool down. There are a lot of good people that come to these classes--we talk, laugh and encourage each other. We have a very good instructor and she brought me a Zumba towel yesterday for inviting my neighbor and others to the class. I also made a more conscious effort to get up and move more at work yesterday and walked more at the office and took stairs. I checked my fitbit this morning and it showed a total of 17,036 steps--one of my personal bests!! I can't tell everyone how good I feel today physically and mentally. And, would like to encourage anyone who wants to improve their overall health to take small steps toward that journey.-

Lenora Andrews 10/26/2023 8:09 AMI should have added this category in earlier. Like a lot of Comerica colleagues, I sit at my desk most of the day. I wear a fitbit to keep track of my steps. As we all know we get busy and find we have sat for hours. I make it a point to get up regularly and take a longer route from the restroom or go to a restroom farther away to get more steps. I discovered that walking is good, but not enough for me to greatly improve my fitness level. So, I started taking community classes after work. I started with stretch and tone with a touch of pilates (w/small hand-held weights) for the first 6-weeks session. The 2nd session I added in Zumba, which is fun and burns a load of calories; I invited my neighbor and she recently joined with me. This is my fourth session and I added in Ta Chi. I feel better physically than I have since COVID. I encourage everyone to take small steps to get more fitness in even if you just start with getting more steps in by walking. We all need more movement and would benefit from this.-
Tricia Jones 10/26/2023 8:23 AMHello! Thanks for responding to my post. FYI - Alkaline water, use filtered water and add a pinch of baking soda. Same benefit but you can use your own reusable bottle and it's much cheaper!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Lenora Andrews 10/18/2023 8:35 AMI try to have at least one day a week of meatless meals all day. It isn't that hard with a little preplanning. Although I am not a vegetarian, I always feel good about these days. And, even the days I eat meat, I am working on minimizing the portion sizes of the meat I have. I also find it helpful to monitor my calories on the myfitness pal app. Without it, I think I am eating healthy, and may be, but end up eating way too much. When I use the app, I find, I can eat plenty of high density foods (foods high in nutrients and mostly lower in calories) and feel satisfied; plus I don't exceed the calories I should be eating daily. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Lenora Andrews 10/06/2023 5:34 AMMeat is in abundance in richer countries and people are taught to value eating meat. Eating healthy, lean meat in it's natural state can be healthy for our bodies in moderation. But eating processed, antibiotic/chemical laden fast food meats are detrimental to our health; it can lead to various health issues.
