    Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

    Bamboo is available in some quantities in my community. You have to watch for it and sometimes be ready to spend a little more. Other sustainable alternatives would be metal, like metal straws. Even plastic can be more sustainable if it isn't single-use and can be recycled.

    While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Another benefit is the health benefits. By reducing the amount you eat you are consuming fewer calories which can cause weight loss which may be beneficial to someone.
