REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Leia Barnett 10/31/2023 11:07 AMI’ve never heard of silvopasture before now. I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is increased animal health. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Leia Barnett 10/30/2023 7:33 PMI now know that use-by and sell-by are not safety dates. Many products can still be used/eaten if they are stored properly after these dates. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Leia Barnett 10/30/2023 11:56 AMI waste food sometimes so that wastes money, food, time. Etc. I can waste less food and eat more vegan products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Leia Barnett 10/25/2023 10:57 AMI’ve never heard of biomass technology before. I learned that biomass is a growing project and is already in effect. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Leia Barnett 10/24/2023 11:10 AMFor increasing the implementation of passive geothermal heat pumps, lawmakers could pass policies that give tax incentives to building owners.
For increasing the number of active geothermal power plants, lawmakers could earmark money for these large-scale projects. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Leia Barnett 10/17/2023 10:54 AMI learned that refrigerants can damage the ozone layer. Supermarkets release many greenhouse gases because of refrigerants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Leia Barnett 10/08/2023 7:17 PMI can reuse/refill my plastic water bottles and use select double-sided or not use color when printing. I can repaint my furniture instead of buying new furniture and refuse to buy non-reusable products. I can also donate old things I don't want anymore instead of throwing them away. It makes me feel less guilty about consuming and feeling like a better person for the environment/society. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Leia Barnett 10/06/2023 6:44 AMAs people get richer, they can afford all sorts of foods that they want. Many people prefer to eat meat than salads and so on. Eating meat causes a loss of biodiversity, it also causes your cholesterol levels to go up, and meat production causes many greenhouse gases to go into the atmosphere.
