Megan 's actions
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 2 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Land Sinks
Advocate for Forest Protection
Forest Protection
I will contact 1 congress people or representatives to advocate for public policy that protects forests and the enforcement of existing anti-logging laws, as well as the rights of local people to protect and restore the land in their communities.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Visit the Coast
Macroalgae Protection and Restoration
I will visit a coastal or ocean site to experience the ecosystem and look for the presence of macroalgae/seaweed.
Land Sinks
Buy Bamboo
Bamboo Production
When they are available, I will purchase products made from bamboo instead of wood, plastic, or metal.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 60 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

Megan Brown 10/22/2023 11:37 AMI feel that not only am I contributing to a more local community, but I am also contributing to someone's lively hood or hobby, and I truly enjoy that =) -
Megan Brown 10/22/2023 11:35 AMAnother weekend spent at the farmers market stocking up on local produce for the week! -
Megan Brown 10/14/2023 9:32 AMHeading to the farmers market today to grab some local produce!
Have a great day everyone! -
Megan Brown 10/10/2023 6:59 PMLast night instead of throwing away the tiny amount of left over rice we had from dinner, I decided to keep it and my boyfriend made fried rice with it for lunch this afternoon! Typically, if it's not enough for a while meal, I toss it! So glad I didn't waste it and it went to good use! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Megan Brown 10/08/2023 10:21 AMPurchased some bamboo to use a privacy screen between my yard and my neighbors! -
Megan Brown 10/08/2023 9:51 AMToday I plan to take advantage of the bit of sunshine we have left and work in my yard! I have been relandscaping my yard all summer and I have decided to clear out a small area in the background to plant wildflowers next year to help with pollination.
