Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Eloise Campbell's avatar
    Eloise Campbell 10/31/2023 7:42 AM
No, I have not learned about silvopasture before today. I think the biggest advantage is the shade for the cows. I think the shade is most helpful because it provides an opportunity for the cows to be heather which in turn helps other things like milk production and meat quality.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Eloise Campbell's avatar
    Eloise Campbell 10/30/2023 7:59 AM
Now that I know the difference I will keep my food for longer and no through it away as soon as it is “expired”.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

Where traditional agriculture favors growing a diverse set of crops and rotating them according to soil needs, our current system of food production is centered around monoculture crops that rely on chemical fertilizers and pesticides to grow.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Eloise Campbell 10/25/2023 7:40 AM
I had learned a little bit about biomass technology in 7th grade science but this was more in-depth and I was surprised by the fact that it does not produce anything into the air and is very clean.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Eloise Campbell's avatar
    Eloise Campbell 10/24/2023 7:47 AM
For me, I would invest in passive because lawmakers can give property owners incentives like tax credits which will reduce the money we spend out of pocket to get passive geothermal in buildings.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

They could be installed on top of the courthouse in downtown Asheville.
