Luke Cardenas 11/01/2023 10:01 PMI joined this challenge because I wanted to make a difference, even though a single person might not produce change, a group of people like this team can eventually create and promote change. I chose the actions I did because I feel they applied best to me and I had a really good time practicing mindfulness and enjoying my food every night. -
Luke Cardenas 11/01/2023 9:54 PMI honestly learned a lot about myself and the environment. I've always tried my best to be conscious and help out the environment because we only have one planet earth and if we don't hold ourselves accountable we might lose the diversity our environment contains. I also learned how to appreciate the food that gets on my plate because not everyone is fortunate enough to have a meal in front of them every night. I also tried my best to cook only the amount of food I would eat so I didn't end up wasting food, and if I did end up with leftovers, I packed it up in a container and ate it the next day. Overall, I really enjoyed this eco-challenge and it helped me learn a lot about myself and the environment around me that counts on us to stay healthy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Luke Cardenas 10/31/2023 7:03 PMI feel the hardest plastic item to reduce was probably Gatorade or Powerade because I frequently meet up with friends and play games of pick up in my free time! I tried my best to cut it out, I got a mio hydration squeeze pouch to use and it was definitely helpful, I know it’s still plastic, but it cut out the everyday usage of a plastic bottle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Luke Cardenas 10/31/2023 6:56 PM1,500 dollars is a very big chunk of money that many people would rather spend else where but I honestly would either try and save that money or use that money towards my education, since my college expenses will slowly add up these next few years. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Luke Cardenas 10/31/2023 6:39 PMWhen practicing mindfulness, I was able to really appreciate the food I was eating, and savor every bite that was on my plate. I feel like this really helped me slow down, which led to more enjoyment of the food since I wasn’t distracted while eating food and mindlessly eating. I honestly think mindfulness is a very important practice that helped me appreciate everything on my plate.
