Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

I do recognize that my carbon footprint is larger than most people due to my travel. I recognize that there isn't much I can do to travel to places without airfare. However, I will try to reduce my single-bag usage.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Mitchell Craig's avatar
    Mitchell Craig 10/11/2023 7:24 PM
My main consumption of single-use items has to be the packaging on foods (Ex. wrappers, Ziplock bags). I can try to reuse clean, undamaged ziplock bags for storing food items.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

    Mitchell Craig's avatar
    Mitchell Craig 10/11/2023 7:21 PM
Using my bike as a means of transportation provides daily exercise and a sense of freedom. For example, a bike can enable me to travel through school campus without a car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
How does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?

    Mitchell Craig's avatar

City planning and equity can result in all communities to become resilient in the face of climate change. For example, a tree planting initiative can reduce heat index in cities and enable carbon capturing.

I've been amazed at how much difference trees can make in reducing the heat index. especially where there's lot of concrete--which is so common in the underprivileged areas. Maybe we can't turn a parking lot into a park, but we CAN plant some trees to lower the heat and beautify the area at the same time.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

Spending time outdoors can increase mental health, satisfaction, and give you physical exercise. In addition, spending time outdoors can connect you to your surroundings and increase awareness of the ecosystems that surround you.
