REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/10/2023 6:52 PMFor dinner prep I can eat the whole broccoli instead of cutting off half the stem. For others meals I can eat a protein shake including a whole fruit or vegetable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/08/2023 1:38 PMI carpool everyday to school and hockey practice. For my situation that is the most environmentally sufficient way since it is to far to bike or walk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/05/2023 6:16 AMNext for me is thinking about how long and how much water I use for my showers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/04/2023 8:38 PMThose in richer countries consider meat especially read meat more of a fine dinning delicacy. Read meat is something that can be bad for you especially if you have high cholesterol. Finally the process of getting red meat especially from cows can damage the atmosphere by realesing CO2. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/03/2023 4:59 PMWhen eating smaller portions it can benefit you throughout the day since you won’t feel blotted. Also in general it can have benefits to weight and cholesterol. To sum it up small portions benefits the environment and us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Anthony D’Orazio 10/02/2023 8:36 PMI can first start by taking shorter showers. I tend to listen to music which makes my showers take longer and waste water. I also leave lights on which runs up the energy consumption and bill. Finally I can eat less red meat and instead eat chicken or pork.
