REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Lisa Doherty 10/31/2023 8:25 AMI realize now that I have to be more aware of where the fish is sourced and also the type of fish I eat. I am amazed at the volume of fish the world consumes and have concerns of sustainability and how that impacts the overall quality of the seafood we eat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat actions will you take to green your job?
Lisa Doherty 10/31/2023 7:20 AMActively participate in the company's green initiatives and spread the word to coworkers to get more people engaged. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Lisa Doherty 10/31/2023 7:19 AMI recently purchased wrapping paper for a baby shower, I made sure that I bought recycled paper. In addition, one of the boxes needed a filler, so I had reused packing materials that had come from a recent on-line purchase. Win/Win -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Lisa Doherty 10/31/2023 7:10 AMLifestyle benefits including losing weight, feeling better and not feeling guilty about wasting the money spent on food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Lisa Doherty 10/17/2023 9:02 AMI like the idea of supporting the local farms in my area, simply because it is hard work, long hours and all because they have a passion for providing the best produce possible. That is inspiring to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Lisa Doherty 10/17/2023 9:01 AMI'd rather exchange the food waste for a vacation to a relaxing destination. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Lisa Doherty 10/17/2023 9:00 AMPlastic wrap and plastic containers. I use glass containers now and wash them out after use. I've started to use the reusable wax paper instead of plastic wrap. That does require some getting use to I've found.... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Lisa Doherty 10/17/2023 8:59 AMThe individual sized water bottles were difficult to give up. I have found that the refillable ones hold more water so I don't have to fill it up that much. Win/Win
