Elizabeth Ellman 10/31/2023 4:11 PMIt was so great to join with my community to do this! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Local Perennial BiomassClimate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?
Elizabeth Ellman 10/30/2023 6:25 PMIncreased extreme weather, decreased air quality, longer mosquito seasons, longer allergy seasons. -
Elizabeth Ellman 10/30/2023 6:11 PMI will be less likely to walk and bike as it gets colder... unless I choose to be a 4 season-er :\. -
Elizabeth Ellman 10/29/2023 8:19 PMI went one place and I walked there. No need for driving today. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Support a Community GardenWhat are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?
Elizabeth Ellman 10/29/2023 9:56 AMI'm very interested in learning about carbon sequestration in soil and implementing it as often as I can. I want to be able to garden-- but I don't like to do it when it is too hot! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Elizabeth Ellman 10/28/2023 7:38 PMSheesh luweesh. "a U.S. supermarket leaks 25% of its refrigerant gases a year. Across the sector, emissions from supermarket refrigerant leaks is equal to 49 billion pounds of coal burned in a year."
I'm aware of the goals related to plastic bags and food waste at the store I shop, but I don't know too much about their refrigeration goals. But it seems like this might be a bigger deal than either of those two. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn about Local Indigenous PracticesWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Elizabeth Ellman 10/28/2023 6:54 PMTo keep it positive. From the article I read: Among the most important messages from traditional people is their equanimity and optimism. There “is no sense of doom and gloom,” says Raygorodetsky. “Despite dire circumstances, they maintain hope for the future.” -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Elizabeth Ellman 10/28/2023 5:39 PMThe video I watched said that soil contains more carbon than all vegetation and the atmosphere, combined! Biochar reduces the amount of CO2 given off and benefits crops grown in the soil as it pertains to nutrients. -
Elizabeth Ellman 10/28/2023 4:56 PMI had a lot of errands to run today that would be too far to bike, so I drove, but I did try to map things out so I I was efficient in my travel. -
Elizabeth Ellman 10/27/2023 6:49 PMI love helping others get excited about making a difference! Here's a clip from a conference yesterday, where I tried to do just that: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7123753478748848129/
