Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

Family Planning and Education
I will watch Drawdown’s Climate Solutions 101 and share what I learned with others.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Land Sinks
Choose Better Wood Products
Forest Protection
I will only purchase wood and paper products from ecologically certified sources like Forest Stewardship Council.

Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?
April Fisk 10/11/2023 12:32 PMI found it inspiring that by the 2040's, if we deploy strategies of energy efficiency and environmental protection in a strict manner we could improve climate change, so much as to revert some damage already done at this point in time! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
April Fisk 10/11/2023 12:18 PMGrowing up I didn't have access to public transportation in my town so I was scared to use it. After refusing to purchase a parking pass and taking the bus twice a day consistently, I actually find I enjoy it after breaking free from the ideas of danger that may be present, however I am still mindful of possible danger when using this community resource. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksBeyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?
April Fisk 10/11/2023 12:15 PMI enjoy hammocking in my free time, and the best place to find adequate trees to do so are in my local forests! I find peace and calm within the forest and think this action helps prevent the destruction of these spaces. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
April Fisk 10/11/2023 12:12 PMI could be better at reusing my grocery bags and plastic produce bags. I could also find more ways to repurpose my glass and plastic containers instead of just getting rid of them. I also can make better decisions on the products I buy in terms of the amount of packaging that would go to waste, and being more mindful of how I could reuse the packaging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
April Fisk 10/11/2023 12:09 PMI would rather use this money to help purchase an electric vehicle that is more gas efficient than my current vehicle, this would also emit less harmful chemicals into the environment.
