Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

From what I could see there are no bamboo alternatives available in my community from what I researched online and in store. I had to order my bamboo biodegradable toothbrush from Amazon Prime. What I did find as other sustainable alternatives were mainly paper straws recycled toilet paper, etc.

What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

By integrating my family values and principles into discussions and initiatives related to the importance of energy sustainability when addressing our most pressing energy issues. Plus, how we can as a whole come up with solutions to the issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Balance is vital to sustainability because to live sustainably, we must acknowledge the finite nature of the Earth's resources and live within our ecological capabilities. Ensure that future generations can live in a healthy environment by practicing responsible stewardship of the domain.

How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Fatima Flores's avatar
    Fatima Flores 10/08/2023 5:59 PM
I am about 2 hours away from the nearest climate-friendly supermarket. The closest one shown was in Portland. I would say probably by reaching out to local supermarkets and the importance of reducing their HFC refrigerants.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I noticed that other people walking are happier when the weather is sunny and warm. I've enjoyed taking time for myself on my walks and taking that time to think and just be more mindful. Walking with a friend or a group would make it more enjoyable.
