  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
How can micro energy solutions reduce inequities? Why is this important to you?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/31/2023 5:38 AM
It gives everyone a fair chance to have decent quality of life. Everyone deserves that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/26/2023 10:02 AM
I think for coffee it isn't too hard because you can order that online. I think for chocolate won't be that hard either because I know I've seen the environmentally friendly brands around stores in town. I think for things like trying to eat more of a plant based diet that will be more of a challenge since my husband and my son like to eat a meat based diet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

    Michelle Folken 10/26/2023 9:17 AM
In my mind, balance is important so things are sustainable and so that things do not run short or run out or get overused.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/25/2023 2:05 PM
The fact that it is doable and there are so many opportunities and that we can generate energy for our lives without having to cause irreversible harm to our air and land and water or harm that will take centuries to be undone. Not only can we do it but it also creates good paying jobs too.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/25/2023 7:20 AM
You wouldn't be able to fully know and appreciate what is in the area around you unless you spent time in it exploring it. For me spending time outdoors helps me feel better physically mentally and spiritually and often times I am spending that time connecting with friends or family or my dog also which is a double win!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/25/2023 7:16 AM
Relate what I've learned to others, Reflect on what I've learned and what can I do yet. Relate to my family what I'm trying to do and try to get them to be open to trying new ways of doing things and be open myself
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/25/2023 6:55 AM
My husband and son like to use paper plates. Will try to talk to them about the fact that we should try to cut down on using paper plates so we reduce our garbage output but I'm not sure how that will go.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?

    Michelle Folken's avatar
    Michelle Folken 10/24/2023 1:10 PM
I think regenerative agriculture has exciting potential
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
