Learn more about temperate rainforests: ?:As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions?
It makes me think more about my impact on the environment and makes me want to have a more positive impact.
?: What are the parts that feel overwhelming?
Parts that feel overwhelming are spending a long time researching things and having to alter some big parts of my life in order to be better to the environment.

Parts that help me feel hopeful are that a lot of people are trying to help and a lot of things are already being done to restore the environment.

Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

No, I had not. I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is that it makes cattle more healthy.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

I learned that expiration dates do not signify when something is unusable/uneatable and that a lot of food is wasted by people who do not know this.

Food banks know this! Every food bank or pantry where I've volunteered has a list of guidelines of how long past those dates we can distribute food items. A few clients have objected, and I've had to explain.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Corbin Freeman's avatar
    Corbin Freeman 10/24/2023 7:59 AM
For passive geothermal, lawmakers can give property owners incentives like tax credits which will reduce the money they spend out of pocket to get passive geothermal installed in their buildings.
For active geothermal energy, lawmakers can pass policies that help businesses pay for large-scale active geothermal power plants to be built.
