I feel bad that I never completed some of the tasks that I planned on doing - where did the month go? I have been more conscious of food waste at home (even if I don't keep a log) and finding other ways to help prevent climate change. I want to reach out to local retailers who have package pick ups about putting up No Idling signs at their pick up locations. Last night, I picked up some items and there was a long wait. The message said if you can't find a numbered spot, to park nearby and put on hazard lights. Why can't the message remind people not to idle as well? I went inside the store and as I walked in, counted 9 out of the 12 cars parked in numbered spaces were idling and there were at least 2 other cars idling with hazards on nearby.

I'm curious if they'd be able to update the message to include the no idling part. It could be worthwhile to talk to one or two of the workers and explain the importance of not idling. And if it helps, I didn't complete everything that I hoped for this month either. I aimed high and did my best. Maybe we can be even more successful next challenge!

How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

What supermarket chain has the most GreenChilled Certified Stores of any retail food industry? I was surprised to learn that it was Aldi. They have over 590 stores that use refrigerants with near zero global warming potential (GreenChill Certification is awarded to stores that replace standard commercial refrigerants with environmentally friendlier refrigerants that keep their greenhouse gas emissions as close to zero as possible). There are stores in NJ, unfortunately not the Aldi stores near me, but maybe soon one near me (or you) might be converted.

Over the summer, my neighborhood Nature Group watched the movie "I Speak for Trees" by Diana Beresford-Kroeger (the adult and real-life version of "The Lorax"). She narrates her journey through different forests over the world emphasizing their importance in stopping climate change and maintaining the health of our planet.

This reminded me of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." Why didn't people believe him in 2006? The earth would be in a much better place if people started taking action then. Hopefully they will realize that they have to take action now!

Yes, the disinformation campaigns are ongoing, especially as action on climate change begins to threaten many powerful business interests (oil, gas, agricorps, etc.).

Unfortunately, there is so much disinformation on the Internet. Even now, with climate disasters occurring all over the world, online trolls are still sowing the seeds of doubt.

Are there any bonus points for having your address certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation? A neighbor is trying to get our entire neighborhood certified and brought her laptop to our community craft show on Sat. If interested, go to www.nwf.org/certifiedwildlifehabitat - there's even a sign you can buy!

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I recently learned about the Too Good to Go App - the app connects places that sell food that they would normally throw away because it is the end of the day or past expiration date with people who want to buy "surprise bags" (since places don't know what will be leftover) at a big savings. Some of the pizza places I purchased from did not save food from being wasted - the pizza did not heat up well and we ended up throwing it away instead of the restaurant (and a few dollars as well). But it's definitely worth checking out if there are places near you with food you can rescue!

Kathleen, thank you for posting about the Too Good to Go app! I'm going to check it out. I doubt I would ever have known about it if you hadn't shared your experience.
