Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:13 PMHere we are at the last day of the Eco challenge. This month has been a bit of a struggle for me not in terms of being sustainable but just life as a whole, and sustainability has actually helped me to feel better. Being able to change my lifestyle to live more sustainably has been a rewarding experience, even though I feel there have been some setbacks along the way. This is my last fall at Susquehanna and so this is the last time I will be participating in Eco challenge with them, but I am ready to live more sustainably on my own outside of school once I graduate.-
Liz Zavodsky (Ecochallenge Staff) 11/01/2023 2:09 PMWe are so grateful you joined us again. While l I am sorry to hear this month was challenging, I am glad changing your lifestyle to be more sustainable was a rewarding part. Please keep in touch with us - our programs are offered to the public so a you move on in your life we are still here with you!

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:12 PMI think some of the hardest plastic to avoid was Packaging. I'm talking about the plastic they used to wrap sandwiches and things like that. Rather than buying plastic wrap packages I started buying from places that use paper or I just started bringing my own containers and having them make it in that instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:10 PMI I think that people in richer countries eat more meat because they can afford to upkeep the livestock. In that sense they can afford another mouth to feed that they can also use to feed themselves whereas people with lower incomes are only able to support themselves and might only be able to grow food rather than support another mouth to feed. In my personal opinion, eating more meat negatively impacts human bodies especially in richer countries because of the amounts they are consuming. In regulated quantities meat is not inherently bad, but with the amount that most Americans consume it is highly health adverse. We also have too much meat production that is based around clear-cut areas, over grazing, and other poor farming practices that have negative Environmental impacts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksWhat have you learned about protecting macroalgae forests?
Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:08 PMMacro algae Force are one of the most productive ones in the world as they not only provide habitat and food for a lot of Wildlife but also are major source of carbon sequestration. They are very vital in our world and are at risk due to rising sea level temperatures. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Hannah Gaibor 10/30/2023 8:29 PMI have started to implement some of these things into my daily life. I unplug things I am not using to reduce my energy consumption, I walk when possible, and I have tried to change a lot of my other habits that may seem small but have a larger impact over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?
Hannah Gaibor 10/30/2023 8:27 PMShut the water off when brushing your teeth. Between lathering soap on your body and rising shut the water off. Scrub the dishes with the water off. If you have 'dirty' water or water that has been sitting give it to your plants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Hannah Gaibor 10/30/2023 8:25 PMI have started to recycle my own scrap paper. It's a great way to learn about the process of paper making and the paper is great for so many things. You can decorate it, dye it, and add flowers to make it unique. -
Hannah Gaibor 10/30/2023 8:24 PMWhat ways can you continue the actions you took during ecochallenge in your daily life? Will you continue to challenge yourself to live more sustainably? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Hannah Gaibor 10/30/2023 8:23 PMI want to prioritize experiences. I think it is so important to experience the world around you, to learn skills, and to explore life. By giving up more material things you can travel more and invest more into yiur own personal development. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Hannah Gaibor 10/26/2023 8:38 PMRecently I've been thinking a lot about food waste, and I have ideas in mind for how I can reduce my food waste in the future that I'm trying to start implementing now. I am trying to regrow my food from some food scraps and when I can't regrow food from this food scraps I am keeping them in my freezer so I can make vegetable broth and stock. I'm learning to reuse my Foods in other ways, and when I can't reuse them then I can compost them and grow a worm Colony that I can use to help grow more food to sustain myself.
