REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Gavin Gentry 10/31/2023 11:01 AMI have not heard of the term before now. Animals get potentially better foods because of the nutrients outside the pasture. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Gavin Gentry 10/30/2023 10:43 AMMy diet is impacting deforestation pretty badly right now because I don’t put restrictions on what I eat. I can attempt a vegetarian diet or switch to positive based products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Gavin Gentry 10/25/2023 11:10 AMI had not really heard of biomass technology but I somewhat new poop can be used as energy. It surprised me that the steam from the gasses is the thing that creates the electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Gavin Gentry 10/24/2023 11:10 AMFor increasing the implementation of passive geothermal heat pumps, lawmakers could pass policies that give tax incentives to building owners. For increasing the number of active geothermal power plants, lawmakers could earmark money for these large scale projects -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Gavin Gentry 10/06/2023 11:12 AMOn Mount Pisgah because it is the biggest mountain in avl and would recieve steady wind.
