REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Yvar Gettier 10/31/2023 8:02 AMI’m gonna try to plant more trees, I only do it occasionally right now. Its overwhelming how much we are impacting the forests. Mainly natural regeneration makes me feel hopeful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Yvar Gettier 10/30/2023 7:57 AMI will only use the ones that are intended for me and make sure to still check my food just in case, have more precautions but not towards ones that are directed towards the store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Yvar Gettier 10/30/2023 7:25 AMI cant try to eat a little less meat and packaged foods like takis and drink less hot cocoa. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Yvar Gettier 10/24/2023 7:43 AMFor passive geothermal, lawmakers can give property owners incentives like tax credits which will reduce the money they spend out of pocket to get passive geothermal installed in their buildings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Yvar Gettier 10/06/2023 7:29 AMThey could be on the bigger buildings downtown, maybe the taller historical ones.
