REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Lorena Gonzalez 10/26/2023 12:48 AMI have never had a car, so for the most part, and excluding going abroad my travels have been based on public transport or walking all my life: coach or train trips to visit family, daily walks to school or university, etc Nowadays in my daily commute, I take a bus, an underground train and walk to reach my destination. My current attitude has been influenced by this life of public transport, so whenever I go somewhere my first thought is: can I take a bus or train there? Below, city view from my walks near my workplace

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Lorena Gonzalez 10/16/2023 12:49 AMI am trying to go meatless at least once a day, and something I choose a soy based product as my substitute, however there is a danger. Soy is one of the biggest contributors to deforestation globally but specially in South America. Not only are soybeans made into food products like tofu, soy sauce, and meat substitutes, but also it is widely used as animal feed (soybean meal), so we consume much of it indirectly via our meat and dairy. Soybeans also reach our tables as vegetable oil—a increasingly used for biodiesel production.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Lorena Gonzalez 10/11/2023 2:26 AMI would rather spend more on the food that I actually use, going for more sustainable, organic local produce that usually comes at a higher price -
Lorena Gonzalez 10/09/2023 1:17 AMMy household carbon footprint of 1.73 tons of CO2e every month, the average in the US is 4.00 tons every month -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Lorena Gonzalez 10/05/2023 7:07 AMPeople in richer countries each more in general, and have more disposible income to spend on more expensive products, like meat and dairy products. Meat and dairy products require more resources (water, animal feed, specialised transport costs, refrigerated storage) than grains or most vegetables.
