How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

For me personally, whenever I need to feel centered or reconnect with myself nature is absolutely that place. There is something so peaceful and reassuring about touching grass. When I spend extended periods of time outside, I always find myself thinking of how the natural world has existed for so long and adapted and the ways which it bounces back after events such as natural disaster. It honestly inspires. Me to think of how much the earth has endured and the ways in which it bounces back. Spending tine outside makes me appreciate life so much more, especially nature.

What was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?

    Ally Hofmaister's avatar
    Ally Hofmaister 10/11/2023 6:28 PM
Drawdown highlights a comprehensive array of practical, realistic, and achievable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reverse global warming. These solutions range from renewable energy and afforestation to sustainable agriculture and women's education, demonstrating that addressing climate change is not just a daunting challenge but also an opportunity for innovation and positive change.

I made some salmon with teriyaki sauce and it was amazing! I love to have local seafood when its available to me, its so much better for the planet and tastes better too! All I did to prepare it was let it sit in teriyaki sauce for 20 minutes and then put it in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes and served it with asparagus. Would recommend!

    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

In my hometown this was something we struggled with and I had the opportunity through an internship to help my city address how it would respond to climate change. After researching it even more I feel very strongly that there should be an emphasis on opportunities for community members to be heard and for them to learn such as a community workshop. I also believe that placing greater value in affordable housing and public transit would also be a great local solution that supports the environment and the community.

    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I love being able to walk down thirtieth where the street is lined with trees and just has a feeling of peace attached to it. I feel that I am very aware of the balance between green and buildings when I am walking and definitely do prefer more green but I also want to be close to things such as school so I appreciate the balance which thirtieth offers. I feel like Corvallis offers a lot of opportunities for transportation as there are many students in this town. I feel like if there were more greenery it would not be as accessible to walk places such as class or the store so I feel that Corvallis balances its infrastructure well. The only thing I did notice was the amount of raised sidewalks from trees growing which could become hazardous or could be challenging to anyone who has any amount of struggle getting around.
