  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

When I learned about the differences between the types of expiration dates, I learned which foods I should buy without creating waste in my kitchen. I now know how to select items that will give me the longest use and the least waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

One thing I have always prioritized is an experience over a material object. Growing up, my mom made travel an important part of our family instead of giving me and my sister a bunch of physical things. I hope to continue this way of living.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I often use plastic water bottles instead of reusable ones because I haven't been able to find the right filter to replace the one on my faucet. As soon as it comes in the mail, I'll be able to cut out my use of plastic water bottles entirely.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

I think that it is much easier to have access to meat in richer countries. Rich countries don't have to rely on internal, local meat processing because they have the infrastructure to import and export goods at a much quicker rate. In terms of the impact of consuming meat, farming animals use up a lot of water resources. If we reduced the amount of meat that we ate, we would use far less water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

If I had an extra $1,500, I would definitely use it to take a trip to a cabin somewhere in the mountains with my friends.
