  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

I think e-bike would be great for short trips. I don't mind walking, but sometimes you need to get to a place a little faster. I am not sure I am ready to be a bike commuter though, going on a street with a lot of cars and multiple lanes is outside of my comfort zone.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What are your next steps for saving energy?

    Katerina Kuznetsova 10/21/2023 6:48 PM
We have already replaced all the lights in our home and have a high efficiency furnace and instant water heater. Our next step is to consider smart thermostat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Katerina Kuznetsova's avatar
    Katerina Kuznetsova 10/21/2023 6:44 PM
There are two advisories in Washington State based on mercury contamination that apply to all water bodies:
    • Northern Pikeminnow: DO NOT EAT.
    • Largemouth and smallmouth bass: Limit to 2 meals per month.

What else can you do to hold your organization accountable to implement sustainable practices?

    Katerina Kuznetsova's avatar
    Katerina Kuznetsova 10/20/2023 4:54 PM
We can all lead by example such as continue to be energy conscious consumers, carpool and take public transportation whenever possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Share the Ride Week
How did participating in carpooling for business-related activities impact your work experience and the environment? Reflect on the benefits, challenges, and insights gained from this initiative, and consider how you can continue to prioritize sustainable transportation options in your professional life.

During this past week we carpooled to loan signing. We typically carpool to various events which is not only beneficial for the environment but also helps to foster good conversations with co-workers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Kitsap Transit Rideshare Happy Hour
During our KT Happy Hour Hour, we discussed some transportation topics. What is one key takeaway that resonated with you and that you would consider implementing in your own commuting choices?

    Katerina Kuznetsova 10/20/2023 4:48 PM
It was very nice to learn about many options available to commuters in Kitsap county. While I don't leave in the county, I will continue to take walk on ferries when commuting to Bremerton and Port Orchard instead of driving
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Katerina Kuznetsova's avatar
    Katerina Kuznetsova 10/20/2023 7:51 AM
Increasing the amount of plants we eat can reduce the area needed to feed us, and subsequently reduce deforestation

I know that it would sound a little nerdy but for my clean energy podcasts I chose to listen to Renewable energy tax credit podcast from Novogradac and Assessment of IRA by Norton Rose Fulbright. In order for us to be able to build more clean energy projects they have to be economically feasible.

We visited Camano Island. Most of the residents use private septic systems and county does not provide sufficient oversight. Pollution of the beaches happens from time to time and that affects the wildlife.
