  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/31/2023 1:42 PM
I think everyone should plant trees that they will not be able to enjoy. They are gifts to future generations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/31/2023 6:39 AM
It is overwhelming to think about climate change and our impact to this planet. You have to continually look for solutions; big and small.
I join these Ecochallenges to learn changes that I can make. I take small steps knowing that I can make a difference.

That's great to hear! It is so important to remind ourselves what is in our control and celebrate the impacts we make with our efforts, even if they feel small. They can definitely add up if more people do them!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/31/2023 6:26 AM
I can invest in companies that are expanding the use of geothermal energy and look into it when I need to replace my AC.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/31/2023 5:58 AM
Yes, it enriches soil. I'm going to try it in my garden, in the spring.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/30/2023 6:18 PM
Unplug appliances on the kitchen counter that are not in use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/26/2023 2:42 PM
Look for ways to reduce GHG production, before just paying for credits to allow more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/26/2023 2:06 PM
Don't use palm oil and limit the use of other crops that are replacing peatlands. Be aware of where products/food come from and if they impact wetlands or drylands.

      Kerry Keck 10/27/2023 9:30 AM
My housemate (who does the grocery shopping and cooking) has been pursuing this goal. It is amazing how many things include palm oil that you wouldn’t think include the oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/23/2023 5:22 PM
Yes, I’m going to look into renewable energy and walk to run a few errands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/22/2023 9:26 AM
I feel less stressed and like the time to think about my day. My neighborhood needs areas for pedestrian traffic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 10/22/2023 9:22 AM
