  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Fund Family Planning
When family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 4:46 PM
Family planning helps with sexual disease control, avoiding unplanned pregnancies', and provides individuals with information that may not have been accessible to them before. It is not only a matter of human rights; it is also central to women’s empowerment, reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 4:37 PM
Wage gap and misogyny are still at an all time high and create obstacles for woman to gain equal financial freedom or to want to move up in the corporate world due to fear of not being taken seriously or being harnessed causes them withdraw from participating in everyday community activities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Cook With Sustainable Seafood
What did you cook and how did it turn out? Can you share a recipe on the feed for others to try?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 4:33 PM
    'Crispy Cod Sandwich':
    • 1 large egg white

    • 2 ¼ cups cornflakes, crushed

    • 1 pound cod, cut into 4 pieces

    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    • ½ teaspoon ground pepper

    • ¼ teaspoon salt

    • Olive oil cooking spray

    • ⅓ cup mayonnaise

    • 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish

    • 4 whole-wheat hamburger buns

    • Lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, radishes, cabbage, bell peppers and/or tomatoes for serving
    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil, place a wire rack on it and coat with cooking spray.

    2. Whisk egg white in a shallow dish until frothy. Place cornflakes in another shallow dish. Sprinkle cod with garlic powder, pepper and salt. Dredge the cod in egg white, shaking off any excess, then coat with cornflakes, pressing to help them stick. Place on the prepared rack. Coat the top and sides of the fish with cooking spray.

    3. Bake the fish until golden brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part registers 145 degrees F, 15 to 20 minutes.

    4. Combine mayonnaise and relish in a small bowl. Serve the fish on buns with some of the sauce and vegetables.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 10:49 AM
I learned that soy is one of the leading causes of deforestation and things like tofu or soy sauce is one of the most common foods helping with deforestation. I can decrease my negative impact by looking for soy fee alternatives in my everyday eating and shopping habits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Buy Bamboo
Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 10:44 AM
Bamboo beds, bamboo toothbrushes, silverware are things I've seen within my area. Other sustainable alternatives I've seen in my area are metal straws, glass packaging instead of plastic, fabric grocery bags/having to take your own bags to the store, old tires being transformed into shoes and so much more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 10:39 AM
Being outside can improve your mood, reduce feelings of stress or anger, help you take time out and feel more relaxed, improve your physical health, improve your confidence and self-esteem, help you be more active, help you meet and get to know new people, connect you to your local community, reduce loneliness and help you feel more connected to nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 10:31 AM
Trees help us feel less stressed and more restored. Probably the most well-researched benefit of nature exposure is that it seems to help decrease our stress, rumination, and anxiety.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/26/2023 8:47 AM
I want to prioritize more family time and time for myself. Material stuff doesn't go with you when you die. The memories you create with your loved ones are so much more meaningful compared to the newest Iphone. Also taking time for yourself and getting to know yourself on a deeper level is also highly important. Taking the time to love yourself and do things you like or learn something new that you're interested in can create such a happier you.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, POC, or Immigrants
Which businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?

    Onna Marks's avatar
    Onna Marks 10/22/2023 9:36 AM
I love supporting black owned businesses or founded businesses. I personally love Mielle products or Miss Jessies for hair and Glo melanin for skin. When a product has a person in mind, you can see and feel the quality that comes with it. Everyone deserves to be represented and have something that works for them and it is a beautiful thing
