REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Madeleine Mathews 10/10/2023 9:20 AMKnowing the distinction between the different ways of labeling makes me better informed when I get groceries. Instead of taking all the dates as an expiration date I know that it is not unsafe to eat food past the date written on the packaging. That being said, it is always important to look for spoilage on any food that is consumed or served. Knowing this distinction can help keep food out of landfills and generally lower CO2 emissions if acted upon by enough people.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Madeleine Mathews 10/08/2023 1:13 PMI think that walking everywhere can limit how far that your community spans. On the other hand when you are in an area where this is common it can also enhance community. Being in Corvallis there is a connection to the area when walking that could be missed by spending most of your transportation time in a car.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?
Madeleine Mathews 10/08/2023 1:09 PMThe most inspiring part for me was when they said that optimization is a key component to start doing now in order to work toward drawdown. This is particularly important to me as an Industrial Engineering major. Many processes that we learn are focused on optimization. Sustainability practices are an area I hope to apply the skills I learn while I’m in Industry.
