Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Most of the food that I consume has palm oil in it and isn’t environmentally friendly. I eat fast food occasionally. From now on I will pay more attention to where my food comes from and get more environmentally friendly food products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Lila Niedenthal 10/25/2023 11:31 AM
I can incorporate all the vegetable in my next meal, because as long as its edible I am pretty sure that it won't change the taste very much so then I can add whatever I want to and not waste anything.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

When I finished my meal, I found that I my stomach didn't hurt as much because I wasn't stuffing myself, it is much more healthy for me to eat smaller portions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Lila Niedenthal 10/24/2023 7:53 AM
I find that when I eat mindfully I can taste the food better, I have interesting conversations with my family and friends and learn things about people that I should probably know already but I didn't because we were all on our devices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Lila Niedenthal's avatar

For passive geothermal, lawmakers can give property owners incentives like tax credits, which will reduce the amount of money they spend out of pocket to get passive geothermal installed in their buildings.
For active geothermal, lawmakers can pass policies that help businesses pay for large scale active geothermal power plants to be built.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Lila Niedenthal's avatar
    Lila Niedenthal 10/17/2023 7:20 AM
I learned that refrigerants are bad for the earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

They could put one where the Vance monument was or pack square, and near beaver dam
