A fun month sharing what we have learned, creating new habits, and getting to know each other better!
And the planet thanks us for it!

A good day to make soup and get the fire going. Years ago I added an EPA certified wood burning fireplace insert to my fireplace. It very efficient and burns clean with only a couple puffs of smoke when it starts. It is my heat backup when power goes out. And great comfort on cold mornings…nothing warms as well as wood heat, in my opinion.

It's so great to dry clothes too. While I know we want to stop burning things, when it is a threat (wildfire) and can be used - I'm so very grateful to the huge work it takes and the primal comfort it brings.

Around 50 folks showed up for the rally for a ceasefire in Gaza yesterday. Faith leaders spoke. Dr. Saba Lohdi, the rally’s organizer, made a passionate plea for a ceasefire. Martha Flores read her poem, “Peace.” It was a powerful show of solidarity for those whose lives have been disrupted forever by war.

Since the Hamas-Israeli war is definitely affecting the climate as well as millions of people, I want to share information on a local interfaith rally coming up on Saturday here in Wenatchee. If you can attend and can note your faith community on your signs, that would be great!
    Hope to see you there!

Getting ready for winter…irrigation lines blown out, covered my patio furniture, took in hoses, put out snow shovels, and charged the lithium battery for my snow blower, raised veggie beds cleaned up…leaves get cleaned up in spring. I do prune back most of my perennials now, because when I wait for spring, it is too overwhelming for me with all the other spring chores. (My yard is like a park, with several hundred shrubs and perennials.) Critters have plenty of food and shelter on my property and places to find seeds and berries. Hummingbirds feed on my winter heather when it blooms, much to my delight!

Sounds like you're redy for a "...long winter's nap". Knowing you, I bet that's not happening!

I just started making my own ‘Shrub’- a concentrated, fermented syrup with fruit, a sweetener, and vinegar, also known as a ‘drinking vinegar.’ I add a tablespoon to a large glass of sparkling water. I use maple syrup, frozen berries, and apple cider vinegar. Healthy, delicious, and so refreshing!

Our good friend (recently deceased) Pat Rasmussen made Shrub when she would stay with us at Christmas time. That was my introduction. Go Lori!

One important thing I took away from the the numerous Zoom climate workshops with activists and climate scientists from around the world that I have attended was that the most important action needed to address the climate crisis was the education of women and children and women’s reproductive rights.
