Lynelle's actions
Electricity
Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Cook With Sustainable Seafood
Improved Fisheries
Using the Seafood Watch guide, I will feature a sustainable seafood ingredient in a new recipe.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 1 meatless or vegan meals each day of the challenge.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 30 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Recycle
for several years, I fill up the recycle bin every week on Wednesday and drag it to the curb for Dallas pick up. Every week.. my neighbors do this as well. The street looks tidy and in good order on trash pickup day. This aspect of our community profile is reassuring in some way
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
More Fruits And Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 1 cups of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Eat Mindfully
Reduced Food Waste
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

Lynelle Oliver 10/18/2023 6:12 AMI need to figure out a way to conserve left over doggie food. Boris and Lucy are picky eaters, prefer the goodies in the regular feed, leave the regular feed so not eaten. they are spoiled, how do I back them out of being picky eaters??-
Becky Peraino 10/19/2023 4:02 PMMy cat Kwunchee is that way too. She loves her 'Temptations Treats'. I have tried only putting a smaller portion in her bowl, then putting the remainder in the frig for another feeding, but often she won't eat it after it has been in the frig. If you find a way that works, I'd love to know.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Lynelle Oliver 10/16/2023 5:37 AMgiving close attention to the food I eat, not taking any spoonful for granted -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Lynelle Oliver 10/15/2023 2:24 PMSupporting local farmers is the most inspiring feature of local food systems. Big business has poorly shaped our dependence on RX, farm-raised seafood, sugar, refined carbs and so many other ways. The more we support the local farmers, who garden using real soil and raise chickens /beef with free range/no grain methods the better for all. -
