REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Becky Peraino 10/19/2023 4:30 PMI read an interesting article about recycling food waste "Chew On This: Farmers Are Using Food Waste To Make Electricity". While it is not about recycling metals and electronics noted in the action I selected, I thought it was an amazing process! Check out the article for more information. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Becky Peraino 10/19/2023 4:26 PMWow, did I learn a lot. I knew that food could be eaten after the dates on the product. What I did not know is the purpose of each of the types of dates. Most are not a purchase or safety date! I also did not know that product dating is not required by Federal regulations. Very interesting reading if anyone is interested.-
Becky Peraino 10/19/2023 4:35 PMI am even trying to teach my oldest niece a few things. She won't eat anything that has an expired Use By, Sell By date. Not sure if I convinced her yet, but I will keep trying.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Becky Peraino 10/19/2023 3:54 PMI am really trying to stick to my commitment of walking 15 minutes a day. So far, so good, but some days, like today, I really have to push myself. We were having a light rain, but I decided to go ahead with my walk. The rain gave me a different perspective. It made me think about all the good that comes with rain - growth of flowers, trees, food, etc. It also made me think of the difficulties that areas of the world that do not receive much rain must experience. -
Becky Peraino 10/17/2023 7:00 AMIn my daily walks I am usually looking at flowers and foliage, landscaping, or any decorations that my neighbors have in their yard. With the Drawdown Ecochallenge, I have been thinking more about the infrastructure around my home. I recently walked to a nearby convenience store. The crosswalk clocks made it safer to walk across the busier road to get to the store. The sidewalks around the busier roads make it safer to walk in those areas. Most are in great shape, but I have come across some sections that need repair and even one section where the sidewalk is totally hidden by trees. My neighborhood itself is not well lit at night so it doesn't feel as safe to walk.-

Becky Peraino 10/12/2023 5:46 PMI volunteered at an event today where we packaged food boxes for senior citizens. It was amazing how many boxes of produce and dry food products we went through! After we packed the boxes, came the cleanup. It was good to see that the organization recycles the boxes and cardboard inserts. -
Becky Peraino 10/02/2023 10:58 AMToday I learned a little about the impact of my diet and how it contributes to deforestation. I learned some valuable tips on how I can make some easy changes to lessen my impact. -
Becky Peraino 9/22/2023 9:23 AMI am ready to begin the ecochallenge!
