  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

From my research I found that barchar can help improve soil quality. When it is added it actually helps with retention of soil and water which can lead to healthier crops and larger crop yield. Which can also lead to less water use.

How does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?

Relining specifically placed BIPOC communities in areas that have less access to greenspaces which in the hotter months can lead to urban heat islands. With temperatures rising with climate change this can lead to becoming more and more of an issue.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

The most single-use plastic I use are coffee cups. Most of the time I get coffee I will be on campus or away from my house and they also tend to be on days I don't plan on getting coffee. In order to stop this I plan on bringing a togo cup with me on the day that I will be gone from my house for long periods of time just in case I decide to get coffe
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

As a college student I would rather be putting this money towards my tuition and rent. This would help me come out of college with less debt.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

Before starting this drawdown challenge I would always be watching TV or multitasking while eating, and I noticed that I would be eating my food faster than I should because I wasn't giving my meal my full attention. After beginning mindful eating I noticed that I ate my food slowly and really appreciated what I was eating.
