  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
When family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?

Family planning is an important civil rights consideration because it allows individuals, couples, and families to make informed decisions about their reproductive lives. Family planning is also an important civil rights consideration because it educates individuals on important topics such as autonomy, economic stability, equity, gender identity, and much more.

How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Erica R Phillips 10/21/2023 3:18 PM
You can express your personality and remain conscious about fast fashion and overconsumption by purchasing items from second hand stores, going through your closet to refine what you already have, go to garage or estate sales, borrow or exchange items with friends or members of the community.

More than 20 years ago I was part of a woman's art group, and a couple of times a year we'd do a clothing exchange. I still have at least two of the items I chose. Most of us were thrift store shoppers, so those clothes were really having a long life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Erica R Phillips's avatar
    Erica R Phillips 10/21/2023 3:15 PM
Some of the places I frequent the most are various store (grocery, beauty supply, clothing, etc.) OSU campus, and different parks or hiking locations. I could schedule to drive with my friends to either class or to any of the stores, depending on the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Erica R Phillips's avatar
    Erica R Phillips 10/21/2023 3:13 PM
On my daily walks I have noticed a lot of the nature that is around in comparison to the infrastructure. I have enjoyed the areas in my neighborhood where there are lots of trees, people have gardens, and nature and infrastructure blend pretty well together. I noticed that many of the sidewalks are not in the best condition, so you have to watch your step most of the time you are walking. If the conditions of the sidewalks could be improved as well as adding more crosswalks, I think walking would be more enjoyable
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Erica R Phillips's avatar
    Erica R Phillips 10/18/2023 5:49 PM
Meat is expensive to acquire and process which is why people in richer countries tend to eat it more. While meat is good for protein, vitamins, and other fatty acids, it is a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
