Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Electricity
Choose LED Bulbs
LED Lighting
I will replace 10 incandescent lightbulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Visit the Coast
Macroalgae Protection and Restoration
I will visit a coastal or ocean site to experience the ecosystem and look for the presence of macroalgae/seaweed.

Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org and download the app to commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Tend A Garden
Conservation Agriculture
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 20 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 30 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Transportation
Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Electric Cars, Hybrid Cars
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Shelly Pisors 10/27/2023 8:45 PMLooking forward to a farmer’s market visit tomorrow. Very much enjoying the crossover between eating, health and sustainability. At the market we have many vendors who are local and who practice organic, sustainable farming. -
Shelly Pisors 10/21/2023 1:16 PMTotal honesty? Food sourcing, portion and food waste management, tending my citrus and herb garden… selfishly is helping not just the planet but me personally! I am eating healthier, have lost a little weight and feel better. What a win/win challenge! -
Shelly Pisors 10/13/2023 9:27 AMAt yesterday’s Comerica Bank Women’s Business Symposium in Dallas we added a QR code feature to the event so attendees could further contribute to the charitable beneficiary..and that charity supports reproductive health. It was a great way to support and weave personal and business commitments together for this Challenge. -
Shelly Pisors 10/07/2023 8:54 AMIn our household, we’re being particularly mindful with our food, shopping and consumption. Our local, farmers market stays open year-round, and we are deliberately shopping there choosing the organic farmers. -
