  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/20/2023 10:29 PM
I feel that the choice of transportation is based on one's needs and also depends on situations. At times if the distance is more, it is best to drive to save on time. however when I go for a walk I am able interact with people, connect with community and experience nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/11/2023 11:05 AM

    · Wash only full load of dishes in the dishwasher
    · Fixing leaks
    · Install a WaterSense aerator on the kitchen faucet to reduce flow to less than 1 gallon per minute.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/06/2023 8:33 AM
Compared with driving, flying, or riding conventional rail, it is the fastest way to travel between two points that are a few hundred miles apart and reduces carbon emissions up to 90 percent. Over time, its energy source is likely to get cleaner as renewables generate a greater share of electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/05/2023 11:17 AM
I find that making small gradual changes to my diet is easier rather than changing everything at once

Wow just learnt that High Speed Rail is powered by electricity. Compared with driving, flying, or riding conventional rail, it is the fastest way to travel between two points that are a few hundred miles apart and reduces carbon emissions up to 90 percent. Over time, its energy source is likely to get cleaner as renewables generate a greater share of electricity.

Amazing! We could use high-speed rail in Canada! I'd travel east more often...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/03/2023 10:41 PM
By implementing these R's I am able to save money as well as reduce clutter in my life, helps me to also appreciate the resources that I have.
It gives me a sense of satisfaction to know that I am contributing towards making a positive impact to save our planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/03/2023 10:32 PM
In my community one can find bamboo alternatives to various products in stores that specialize in eco-friendly and sustainable goods- like the local farmer's market, health and wellness stores.
If bamboo alternatives are not readily available some other sustainable alternatives could be reusable cloth bags, wooden utensils etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/02/2023 10:07 PM
Reduced fuel consumption and maintenance costs are some other motivators that would inspire me to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

    • Tamar Milne's avatar
      Tamar Milne 10/05/2023 11:06 PM
Yes! I have an EV, and I have saved a lot of money on maintenance by not having a fuel-combustion engine to maintain!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
Concrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/01/2023 9:50 PM
The use of plastic/plastic production contributes to significant carbon emissions. Through various online resources and carbon footprint calculators, we can keep ourselves more informed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Lianne Stephen's avatar
    Lianne Stephen 10/01/2023 9:20 PM
I would invest in health & nutrition which can help achieve a healthy and longer life
