  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Darwin Tran's avatar
    Darwin Tran 10/12/2023 10:23 AM
I try to think logically about the things that I can control, how much waste I am producing, and learning how I can change my habits to make a difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Darwin Tran's avatar

Knowing that the "expiration" dates that are found on food containers often refer to the freshest period of the food, makes me feel more comfortable eating food that hasn't gone bad but has past the date on the package. Less waste and more food that can be consumed. You're saving money and time and preventing more waste from building.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Darwin Tran's avatar
    Darwin Tran 10/05/2023 8:58 PM
Being more mindful of what we are eating helps us to not overeat. I've always struggled with this. Sometimes if you have a lot of food on your plate, you feel a need to finish it, which results in overeating.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Darwin Tran's avatar
    Darwin Tran 10/05/2023 8:57 PM
Honestly, books or yarn. It would also be nice to put towards savings or even a new car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Darwin Tran's avatar
    Darwin Tran 10/05/2023 4:38 PM
Reusable water bottles that I have instead of drinks for each meal. I can use totes instead of plastic bags (even though ny already uses paper). METAL STRAWS FOR THE WIN, I use one almost every day :))).
