Jeanne Poirier 10/24/2023 7:03 PMRemember years ago where 1 paper towel/day was recommended. I've never forgotten and often let them dry to reuse. Just a thought.

Online Energy Audit
Multiple Solutions
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Industry
Plastics Audit
Reduced Plastics
I will complete a plastics audit to see where plastics show up in my life and determine how I can reduce the use of single-use plastics.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics; Reduced Plastics
I will avoid buying and using 3 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Julianna Upham 10/24/2023 2:39 PMI had been using single-use paper towels around the dorm, which I have substituted for washable and reusable cloths. I will continue to keep paper towels around, but aim to use them much more sparingly or avoid using them when possible -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Julianna Upham 10/24/2023 2:35 PMI've been continuing to recycle plastics and cardboards that I use in the dorm. I have also invested in a Brita water filter to cut down on my usage of plastic water bottles -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Julianna Upham 10/10/2023 8:35 PMAfter evaluating my use of plastics in my everyday life, I realized how much I rely on single-use plastics. Living in the dorms it is easy to value the convenience and overlook the environmental impact. I am considering purchasing a Brita water pitcher to cut down on my use of plastic bottles, and I plan to start using a set of metal silverware when I eat in the dorm.
