REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Victoria Vella 10/20/2023 3:06 AMI was recently assigned a hybrid vehicle at work so that will definitely make a difference, We walk to most school events since the elementary school is a couple blocks away - watching our carbon footprint drop a little once I entered the walking made me hopeful. I would like to go meatless most days and have to work on that and gather some yummy plant based meals that my family will enjoy. I would benefit from going completely vegetarian and have done so in the past. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Victoria Vella 10/20/2023 2:44 AMI have a habit of still using plastic vegetable bags, I have a few cloth ones and need to make it a regular practice to use those instead and store them with my reusable bags. We still use plastic wrap (sparingly and not often) for some items where I haven't found an alternative I like. Goal is to keep learning and find sustainable products to replace these single-use items.-
Kerry Keck 10/20/2023 6:49 AMI need to get into the habit of bringing the reusable cloth bags when visiting the pharmacy (my housemate does all the grocery shopping). It’s a matter of making ingraining the habit, isn’t it? 🙂

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Victoria Vella 10/20/2023 2:41 AMHmmm, I tend to enjoy my food more when eating mindfully. I focus on eating and not getting distracted so food doesn't get cold (if hot). I appreciate the flavor and work it took to prepare the meal when eating mindfully. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Victoria Vella 10/12/2023 5:50 AMI'd rather use this money towards solar panels & investing in sustainable products. Maybe an (ecofriendly) vacation! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Victoria Vella 10/05/2023 1:19 PMBiochar can help with soil quality while sequestering carbon. I had heard the term before but honestly didn't know much more about it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?
Victoria Vella 10/03/2023 5:55 AMI am officially kicking off my kids' elementary school's terracycle program this month. I do this on my personal time to get our community to recycle things that are hard to recycle. I am also actively collecting Beyond the Bag Plastic Film for our town's collection. I've found and shared other free terracycle programs that are offered at a nearby Sustainable Refill store.
