REFLECTION QUESTIONShare Your Storyhttp://ecochallenge.memfox.io/drawdown2023
Holly Windom 10/31/2023 6:56 AMThis journey of awareness is always enlightening. My research of seaweed's purpose in the ocean and being a supporter of woman owned businesses from social media. Has heighten my view of Being in this challenge. I'm so glad to be a part of the sustainable solution. Now I know how, when and where I can contribute. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksWhat did you learn about seaweed and its importance to coastal ecosystems?
Holly Windom 10/30/2023 5:51 AMThis was a more interesting topic than I thought it would be. Seaweed provides food and habitat for other marine species. Also removes excess nutrients from runoff and absorbs carbon dioxide from which protest the water shelled animals (like Oyster) from ocean acidification per Aquariumofpacific .org. Seaweed for humans comes in many different forms to eat. I tried the chips from the Trader Joe's market. It is considered a superfood. I'm not ready to add to by diet but I 'll tried again in maybe in Sushi this time. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Holly Windom 10/23/2023 5:40 AMBe intentional about going out. We are usual creature of habit. Everyday day in and day out we have the same routine. A co-worker of mine started bird watching, and a family friend started his kids rock collecting. All summer I decided to visit all the new parks south of Jefferson Avenue in Downtown Detroit, MI. Walking with someone gives you a great chance to talk thru things and these parks have information feature stations on the wild/river life in that area. Start Off slow at lunch walk block outside your building. If you have children in your life this a perfect way to put down electronics and reconnect in nature. Almost everyone is less that 22 miles (that how far I drive to work) to a local, state and or national park. Tell me where you have been or dream of going to enjoy the great outdoors? -
Holly Windom 10/18/2023 8:10 AMThanks for the reminders to check in. Sometimes in life we go along with our daily to do list and forget to add in new adventures and task. I set my calendar to alarm at 10:30 each morning. I understand some fitbits (I do not owe one) alarm when you have not moved in an hour or ping for you to drink water. How many people have a reminder to shop sustainable? Recycle? and or learn something new to support our planet? If not, start day, I'm sure you know when the next great movie or tv show comes out. Let's find out more about sustainable living and what can we do to support this planet.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhat did you cook and how did it turn out? Can you share a recipe on the feed for others to try?
Holly Windom 10/16/2023 11:36 AMI love seafood. I prepare skinless Salmon (on Sale on Sam's club in MI). I seasoned with Tabitha Brown All purposed seasoning from Target. Rinse your fish and pat dry with paper towel. Spray air fryer with olive oil on bottom of drawer and sides. Cut salmon by 2 inch sections and place 4 in drawer. (you can freeze the rest) Place air fryer on bake for 16 min at 350. Makes top a little crunchy. By the way this is spicy!-

During this session turn from your favorite drama, horror movie and or game show and tell me what you learn? Who know maybe you will learn how to help support ocean cleaning or beehive process.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Holly Windom 10/06/2023 6:18 AMHi my Name is Holly and I'm a shopaholic. When shopping excites you the why is does me, Focus on a method like shopping for others or not just for clothes. First, I learned to shop without purchasing one item. Second, when you do purchase an item look for used items. Great things are at resale stores at great prices. When purchasing at Goodwill you are supporting a great cause. Seasonal item like costumes & accessories are plentiful at these places. The best way to express yourself is to talk with someone. The old statement of "You cannot judge a book by the cover" is true. If you have no family or not many friends. Volunteer! I meant so many nice people who are looking to support charities and looking to be social. I met my husband at bible study by answering a question he asked in the study. Take your chance to express your personality when you are called on to speak about a subject you know well. You never know who is listening.-
Liz Zavodsky (Ecochallenge Staff) 10/06/2023 1:51 PMWow Holly - thank you so much for sharing here. I appreciate your story and the suggestions you make! Really glad you are joining us. -
Mary Hanks 10/06/2023 11:05 AMHolly, I really like what you say here! You've developed ways to enjoy an activity in a sustainable way that benefits others as well as yourself. And you clearly articulate the value of direct communication and action in a social setting. People often do notice more than we think they do, and being charitable and positive might encourage others to do the same.

Holly Windom 10/04/2023 7:10 AMIn Michigan every major street is construction. On my walk I counted 40 orange street marks to close the traffic lane. In stead of focusing on this seasonal event. I enjoy the changing of the leaves and the new sidewalks that were replaced due to all the tree roots had lifted or cracked the plates. Only if we could replace, upgrade and repair our planet in the same way how would this earth look? Do your part find a way to make a different somehow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Holly Windom 10/04/2023 7:04 AMSo many people ask me are you a VEGAN? Like that is a bad Thing. I used to think I could not go without meat. Until my Mother appointed out to me. I really have been having only 1 meat a day with all my meals as a child. Breakfast was cereal with rice milk and veggie sandwich for lunch. Meat I can do without, but sugar is another story! Now answering question "Money/Finances". More countries have the majority of its people in poverty. They just cannot afford a $60 cowboy steak from Sam's club. (by the way is wonderful). They do not even have a sam's club to shop. Now people appear to have lots of issues with health that is coming from over feed chemical balance animal products. Over feeding animals to make them bigger .ie chicken. The chemicals feed to them get in our water, our dirt, and our bodies. That is not good for the planet.
