  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

Wasting land and water are my largest concerns. Water is a very finite resource, and no drop should be wasted. The way land is used for farming is inherently wasteful, and a lot of the food produced in these farms is already wasted. The food that makes it to the shelf needs to be utilized.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

My city could create community initiatives to create affordable housing using sustainable building materials such as wood products. The university itself could assist in this research and implementation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

My body feels a lot better when I commute on my bike instead of my car. I do feel a bit more nervous, as biking near cars and pedestrians can be scary.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

People in richer countries have more access to farmed/non-subsistence meat than poorer countries. Cows produce methane which contributes to climate change. Red meat can especially increase chances of heat disease and is a known carcinogen.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

Eating and serving smaller portions can assist in promoting mindful eating. Start with a small amount before you eat more. This method gives you time to check in with your body and make healthier eating decisions.
