Because fish don't have to dedicate their resources to combating gravity or regulating their internal temperature, a much larger percentage of the nutrients they take in goes toward weight gain. Because of this, raising fish produces a much larger yield per pound of feed compared to raising poultry, cattle or pork. Fish yield about 1.1 pound of edible flesh per pound of feed.
