REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhich businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?
Priscila Zendejas Hernan 10/11/2023 4:22 PMI'm excited to support La Familia Cider Company, because their hard ciders are inspired by agua frescas. It's also a company that was founded in Oregon. Another company I'm excited to try is Camille Rose's hair products. This company is a black women owned hair product brand. I'm hyped because I enjoy trying new hair products because I'm still trying to discover what works well with my curls. Panda Express is a women owned company that I'm already supporting. While researching this company I also discovered that the founder is an Oregon State University alumni. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Priscila Zendejas Hernan 10/11/2023 3:54 PMFinding other outlets for self-expression is crucial when trying to minimize your shopping sprees. Finding hobbies that allow you to be creative that add onto your personality. For example like painting art to decorate you're home. Home decor is another way to express who you are instead of only or mostly through your wardrobe. Fast fashion can be difficult to avoid and clothing does become worn out, so when you do shop, shop responsibly if possible. Go thrifting or revamp your old clothing into a fresh new piece. Buy what you need and if you want to get rid of something donate it instead of throwing it away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Priscila Zendejas Hernan 10/11/2023 3:42 PMI didn't purchase a bamboo made product but I did purchase a bamboo planet! When I was looking for bamboo products to purchase, the stores I went to were large whole sale retail stores. I went to these stores because in the past I have found bamboo products being sold. Sadly, this time around I didn't find anything because these stores' merchandise is ever changing and random. From my experience I would say that Corvallis is mid when it comes to finding bamboo crafted products. My shopping experiment also wasn't very reflective of local vendors but instead of larger corporations. So with this said there may be shops in Corvallis that have a bamboo focus that I didn't visit. I would also say that Corvallis does have plenty of thrift stores and would consider them as sustainable alternatives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Priscila Zendejas Hernan 10/11/2023 3:31 PMOn my daily walks I have noticed that overtime, after going on a daily walk multiple days in arrow my body feels better. I noticed that I would be looking forward to my 30 minute walk. I have enjoyed exploring different parts of campus and discovering a few cats that live near OSU. I'm excited to show my friends the new areas I have discovered and do a mini photo shoot. Some changes I would make to my daily walks would be changing environments frequently. I'm a person that craves an ever changing environment, so going on daily walks in different areas of Corvallis would make the experience more enjoyable. I would also like to increase the amount of time of mywalks. I would like to increase my walk time to an hour. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Priscila Zendejas Hernan 10/11/2023 3:21 PMMy experience is more reflective. I'm alone with my food and thoughts. I noticed myself appreciating nature and details of my day before my meal. I tend to eat slower than others on most days, but I noticed that I was eating faster without distractions. I think this was because I was more focused on eating and my thoughts. It was a nice experience but I did miss watching shows and/or talking to friends while eating. Mealtime to me is an opportunity to socialize/relax, combining two tasks in one uses my time more efficiently. Even though, I did enjoy eating without distractions I will be returning to my old method. Eating without distractions might be something I visit back on in the future when I have more time for myself.
