I learned that any daily action can help contribute to a better environment and improve overall health. Being intentional about taking actions that actually make a difference and sustaining them is key. It is also helpful to be on an active team where teammates participate, share comments with positive, encouraging feedback. I would like to see small gaps of time in between challenges so that we can all keep this going. I hope to see a new challenge real soon!

What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

Who knew? I remember when the globe joined together to ban CFCs to save the Ozone layer - I hope we, as a planet, can band together with same joint goal to solve for the climate crisis!
I signed up to report refrigerant codes at local grocery stores - I have 5 stores within a mile of me! Most interested in how Central Market and Whole Foods rate in Dallas. Kudos to Aldi and WF for topping the overall list in reducing HFCs - but still a lot more work to do!!

While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

Better health is definitely achieved through eating smaller portions and limiting waste. There are times when I find that I haven't finished my food and find that I am full. I tell myself to put the food away or set it aside and eat the rest when I am hungry. When attending social events where there is a lot of different foods, I take a little bit of most everything that I think I will like, eat and figure out what I like best, and return to get a bit more of some of what I liked the most.

This journey of awareness is always enlightening. My research of seaweed's purpose in the ocean and being a supporter of woman owned businesses from social media. Has heighten my view of Being in this challenge. I'm so glad to be a part of the sustainable solution. Now I know how, when and where I can contribute.

I checked my steps and made 11,819 yesterday. I kept making a decision to walk a little further and take a longer route. What small step can you make today?

Great EcoChallenge, I got behind - but I'm so much farther ahead in motivation and in making daily eco-conscience decisions!

Good morning everyone. I am enjoying learning Tai Chi and attend on Monday evenings, but find this the most difficult to learn. and definitely need to practice more of what I am learning to get better at it. Whatever you decide to do, I encourage more movement.

Jealous!! Tai Chi is so good for you - and it is tricky, I never mastered it! I did however, see results when sailing - my balance was so much better. Stick with it - and you have motivated me to try it out again - thank you!!

Hi Tricia, thanks! I do realize Tai Chi has many benefits and plan to stick with it. I definitely see I need improvements with my balance. Planning these classes has helped me get better workouts than on my own and I don't let anything unimportant like rain, cold outside, or being tired keep from going to class.

    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

I bought my buckets to start my worm compost bins. I am debating on ordering more worms or digging some of the worms that I bought this spring from my garden.

Identify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?

This is a difficult question. I think most societies have ideas that seem great in the beginning but turn out possibly hurting the environment more. When researching solar panels, it came to my attention that there is a sever issue with the disposal of the old nonworking Solar Panels. They are now creating more waste to be placed in dumps. I am beginning to see more and more solar farms and I am now more than ever concerned about the waste it is creating. This is the same with the batteries from electric cars. We may be creating a larger problem. I am appreciative of this challenge. It opened my eyes.

What did you cook and how did it turn out? Can you share a recipe on the feed for others to try?

The farm raised shrimp I used in our Shrimp and Grits dinner was delish. I would share the recipe, but I didn't have one. I tend to cook making recipes as I go.
