The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them. Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It's about doing more good. Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.

Often when you think you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else. There is no such thing as 'away'. When we throw anything away it must go somewhere. When you put the whole picture together, recycling is the right thing to do.

Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It's about doing more good. Use the resources we have judiciously and without greed.

What I like most about biking in my city is the ease of getting through traffic. I would like to have more cycle lanes in our city.

I agree, Prem. This is my biggest concern about biking in Houston, Texas, USA : safety.

Whenever I travel alone in a car, I always feel guilty about occupying more real estate on the road than I need, and therefore choose public transport as much as possible, though it is not always feasible.
Public transport reduces CO2 emissions by a considerable extent and reduces road congestion.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

I feel the same way, especially when i need to run down the street in my car. I've started walking instead which actually has turned out to be enjoyable, especially with the leaves changing this time of year

I have always been a green/sustainable person for decades. I built my first electric cycle about 20 years ago. From there on I have mostly invested in Electric vehicles, not only that, but even my ICE vehicles, I drive them with care, such that, I consume the minimum amount of fuel per km/mile as I do with my electric vehicles to consume less watthour per km/mile. With my advocacy, I have influenced more than 50 of my family/friends/relatives to switch to more fuel-efficient / greener vehicles.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?
