It was kind of easy because I don't eat a lot of chocolate or drink too much coffee, so I have been having those every once in awhile.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Yes, I feel that my diet choices when it comes to eating seafood and fish in general. I only eat it sometimes and it is usually just salmon or crab in sushi. Some steps that I could take are to not overfish bodies of water and if I were to catch a lot of fish, then release them back to where I found them.

Here we are at the last day of the Eco challenge. This month has been a bit of a struggle for me not in terms of being sustainable but just life as a whole, and sustainability has actually helped me to feel better. Being able to change my lifestyle to live more sustainably has been a rewarding experience, even though I feel there have been some setbacks along the way. This is my last fall at Susquehanna and so this is the last time I will be participating in Eco challenge with them, but I am ready to live more sustainably on my own outside of school once I graduate.

    • We are so grateful you joined us again. While l I am sorry to hear this month was challenging, I am glad changing your lifestyle to be more sustainable was a rewarding part. Please keep in touch with us - our programs are offered to the public so a you move on in your life we are still here with you!

What was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?

    Hannah Gaibor's avatar
    Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:12 PM
I think some of the hardest plastic to avoid was Packaging. I'm talking about the plastic they used to wrap sandwiches and things like that. Rather than buying plastic wrap packages I started buying from places that use paper or I just started bringing my own containers and having them make it in that instead.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Hannah Gaibor's avatar
    Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:10 PM
I I think that people in richer countries eat more meat because they can afford to upkeep the livestock. In that sense they can afford another mouth to feed that they can also use to feed themselves whereas people with lower incomes are only able to support themselves and might only be able to grow food rather than support another mouth to feed. In my personal opinion, eating more meat negatively impacts human bodies especially in richer countries because of the amounts they are consuming. In regulated quantities meat is not inherently bad, but with the amount that most Americans consume it is highly health adverse. We also have too much meat production that is based around clear-cut areas, over grazing, and other poor farming practices that have negative Environmental impacts.

    Hannah Gaibor's avatar
    Hannah Gaibor 10/31/2023 8:08 PM
Macro algae Force are one of the most productive ones in the world as they not only provide habitat and food for a lot of Wildlife but also are major source of carbon sequestration. They are very vital in our world and are at risk due to rising sea level temperatures.

After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

After determining my carbon footprint I saw many different changes I could make, such as using reusable coffee cups and water bottles, using real silverware instead of plastic cutlery, carpooling to stores close to my campus, and using reusable bags when shopping.
